5 Ways to Love Yourself this Valentine’s Day

We spend so much time and effort loving those around us, that it’s easy to forget to give that love back to yourself. This Valentine’s Day, we encourage you to set aside some time for YOU. Here are our favorite ways to show yourself some sweet love this Valentine’s day.

  1. Treat Yourself
This can include a variety of ways to pamper yourself, such as a long, hot bubble bath, getting a massage, or mixing up your own face mask.
  2. Get Outside
Spend some time outside, connecting with nature. Whether its watching the waves crash, sitting near a tree, or watching the clouds drift through the sky, get outside, and breathe in the fresh air.
  3. Indulge
Treat your taste buds to the finest of your favorites. Find the highest quality, yummiest superfoods and fill up. (We can’t get enough of the smoothie bowls at Beaming… with every topping)
  4. Express Yourself
Sing! Dance! Paint! Let your creative juices flow. Don’t hold back, just let it out!
  5. Write Yourself a Love Letter
Highlight all of the beautiful things you love about yourself. What do you love about your life? Your family, your friends? Your accomplishments and your best qualities? The more you continue to highlight the things you love the more they will continue to grow and show up in your life.

There are so many ways to show yourself love, and while it may feel challenging at first, just like anything else, it’s a practice. What are some other ways you can integrate self-love into your daily life? We would love to hear from you!

A look back at a Beaming 2015

Wow, what a year it’s been!

Beaming Del Mar had it’s 3year anniversary this month and this year alone, we opened 4 cafes In 9 months including 3 cafes in a new city!

It’s been a whirlwind of a year but exciting at the same time. Fast and furious, we came together as a team, juggling all the challenges of opening new stores as well as hiring, training, marketing, discovering the local communities and of course, learning about parking (and traffic) in LA, etc. etc.

Thank you LA!

LA has been amazing as each neighborhood has its own unique energy & personality.  I have especially fallen in love with Santa Monica as the local community has embraced us with such a warm welcoming.  Brentwood Beaming was our first entry into LA and has become a favorite with the local schools and families. West Hollywood is so much fun with its eclectic vibe, amazing restaurants and best workouts in the city.

We have received incredible accolades, including “Best in the City” by Angelino magazine for 2015 among many other much appreciated acknowledgements. Thank you LA for all your enthusiasm and support! We are humbly grateful.

Our customers rock!

What excites me more than anything is hearing from our customers – how much they love Beaming, how “obsessed” they are and how great they feel when they eat/drink it. I especially love seeing young people embrace the healthy choices of Beaming… nothing makes me happier.

A special thank you to Beaming Del Mar for making all of this possible including our newest addition to San Diego, Beaming La Jolla.

Go team go!

I am so proud of our team and what we pulled off this year. It hasn’t always been easy but I am amazed at all that we have accomplished and how we all came together to do, what seemed at the time, the near impossible.

Hello 2016!

As we enter a new year taking in all that we have learned and having a moment to catch our breath, we are grateful for where we have been and excited for all that is to come. We have incredible plans for 2016 including the launch of our much anticipated, Superfood Porridge Bar (early February), among many new product introductions.  We will tease you with a new cleanse program that we will be announcing in early Spring and I am thrilled to say that we will be offering a lot more education, events and classes in 2016 as we focus on sharing our passion for “living Beaming.”  And last but not least, there may even be a few new Beaming locations on the horizon….stay tuned on all fronts J

We are passionate about health & wellness, inspiration, education, food, family, community and play and hope to share much more of the this with you all in the coming year.

Thank you for helping make this happen. We wouldn’t be here without you.

Cheers to you, your health, a wonderful holiday and a Beaming 2016!

With love and gratitude,
The Beaming Team

How I Went From Football & Finance To Yoga After Hitting Rock Bottom

By Todd McCullough, Founder of TMAC Fitness

A good friend once told me, “We are the sum of our life’s experiences.”

I have found this to be true.

I’m from a small town on the border of Florida and Georgia, where life revolves around college football on Saturdays and Jesus on Sundays. I have pretty much dedicated my life to football and fitness.

My mantras were always something like, “Push those heavy weights,” or “Hit people real hard,” and of course, “Pray for strength to do it all over again tomorrow.”

My faith in God was my rock and before I knew it, I had achieved my childhood dream and became a starting linebacker for the University of Florida. #GoGators.

Fast-forward a few years later and I was living in Los Angeles and working as a Financial Advisor for Merrill Lynch. I was still pressing plates in the gym, but my body was killing me. The five surgeries and a few concussions I sustained over the years had taken a toll on my body. But still I had to sweat, so I kept going to the gym.

And sure, I had heard of low-impact forms of exercise like yoga, but my thoughts were always that it was where a bunch of hippie people gathered to do some stretching. I never thought it was something I could actually benefit from.

But when an attractive girl in Lululemon pants asked me to come to a class one day, I couldn’t help but say, “YES MA’AM!”

The first time I set foot inside that yoga studio I wore tennis shoes and my best North Florida wife-beater tank top. I remember when the overly happy girl at the front desk had asked me if I wanted a mat and a towel, I nearly scoffed at the idea that I might actually sweat.

“I will take the mat,” I replied with a slight grin, “but I doubt I will need a towel.” I thought to myself, I am an athlete! A towel for yoga? Please. Mistake number one.

When the teacher opened the door to the yoga room it was seemingly a mad race to get an ideal spot on the floor for their mats. These hippies are serious!

And then as I got ready to lay my mat down, some dude half my size throws his mat down in the spot I was going for. Little man, I will smash you! Somewhat irritated, I moved to the other side of Lululemon girl who had invited me to class.

Once my spot was secure I surveyed the situation. I saw a little Buddha statue in the corner (whatever, he ain’t Jesus but its just one class) and I was pleasantly surprised by all the hot girls in the room. If only the boys back home knew about this! This was a much more ideal way to flirt with girls than at some dive bar over a few Bud Lights. I quickly realized that this yoga thing was heaven for a single guy like myself.

As I began to loosen up, feeling pretty confident about my new pickup spot, that’s when it came out of nowhere — almost as shocking as a blind side on the football field — and the class chanted a great big “OM.” What the hell was that?! I started to get really nervous and yes, I was afraid.

I thought for sure that this yoga thing was definitely some kind of pagan ritual. Was I dishonoring God?

Not soon after I went into full-on survival mode. I was sweating uncontrollably. Why didn’t I get that damn towel? How long can Lululemon girl hold this pose? Don’t quit before she does. Be a man! I also managed to sneak in a few prayers that I’d make it through the class in one piece.

After it was over, I took a quick inventory of the damage that had just occurred. But surprisingly, there wasn’t any. I was still unsure about the religious aspect of yoga, but my broken down football body felt great. So with that, I kept coming back for more.

Despite my newfound dedication to yoga, the years that followed were among the hardest of my life. I was laid off from Merrill Lynch during the financial crisis of 2008 and found myself couch surfing on low cash. Nothing I tried seemed to work. Every great idea I had to climb out of the hole I was in seemed to hit a wall. To say I was brought to my knees in tears only once is an understatement.

I can recall not being able to afford a plane ticket to attend the funeral of one of my best friends’ father when he passed away. It was a gut wrenching moment of self-doubt to say the least.

Have you ever had on of those? Where you find yourself standing on the cold tile of the bathroom floor, staring in the mirror dumbfounded, questioning not only your choices, but your resolve. Your very belief system. All I wanted to do was scream and punch my fist through a wall. How did I let myself get here? I was the one who was supposed to succeed!

My prayers become genuine cries out to God.

And during this difficult transition, yoga played a crucial role in turning my life back around. I would walk into class with the weight of the world on my shoulders, but for those 90 minutes all I could do was sweat and breathe.

Simply put, my faith and my yoga were the only things that kept me going. I had found a new mantra: “Sweat. Breathe. Connect.”

As I write this today, I could not imagine my life without my yoga practice. My faith is still as strong as ever and my body feels great. I even begin and end my day with an asana routine I developed myself. In the morning, I pray for strength and ask God for blessings to my friends and family, and to fill my cup so I can help others. And when I return to the mat in the evening, I thank God for giving me this day, and ask for his wisdom in the days to come.

After practicing for six years now, all I can really say is thank God for girls and thank God for Lululemon.

Love your body. Kathryn Budig speaks at #Revitalize2015

A week ago I had the opportunity to join Mind Body Green at their Revitalize2015 wellness retreat at the Miraval Resort & Spa – a gathering of some of the most interesting, knowledgeable and influential people within health and wellness. We enjoyed two full days of incredible speakers on fascinating topics. Fortunately, the talks are all available online so you can enjoy any of the topics from the comfort of your home.  I highly recommend taking the time to watch any or all of them.

One of the most moving presentations was by yoga teacher, author and woman extraordinaire, Kathryn Budig – “I’m a real woman. And so is every other woman.”  Her message was powerful as she challenges the expectations we have as women to uphold to societies pressure of being skinny and fitting into size 0 clothing.  She started her talk referencing those moments when you don’t want to go to yoga class because you feel “bloated” and don’t want to be seen in your tight yoga clothing.  Perhaps some of you can relate to this?  My raw confession – I didn’t attend her yoga class that morning because I felt bloated and fat and didn’t want anyone to see me like that….

Yikes – she was speaking to me.

Rationally I knew this was ridiculous but even with that, I skipped going to class so I didn’t have to be “embarrassed” by my “bloated” body.

She asks the questions – “What does healthy really look like? What expectations are we setting for ourselves?  What false expectations is social media influencing what we think a woman should look like?  ….As a mother of a young daughter, what effect is this having on our daughters?

Kathryn shared her experience of being on the cover of Yoga Journal magazine and was referred to as a “big girl” (among other ridiculous and cruel comments). She’s an absolutely beautiful woman who wears a size 4, hardly what one would consider “big.”

I wanted to share her talk because I feel strongly that everyone needs to hear Kathryn’s message. I am guilty for falling into this trap of self-criticism and ridicule. Social media is escalating these pressures and expectations and it needs to stop.  And, unfortunately, our young ones are being affected the most.

Kathryn’s talk is only 25 minutes. I encourage you to take the time to watch it and share with your daughters. If you feel as inspired as I did, I hope you will also share with your friends and family.

5 ways to be spontaneous in a world that would rather you not!

by Laura Conley, Yoga Teacher & lululemon Ambassador

If you were to look at my calendar (yes, I still keep a hard copy) you would see mostly colorful ink and very little white space. Like most Americans, every second of every day is scheduled, planned, blocked or inked in a sharpie. Our culture thrives on do more, be more, multitask this and multitask that. It is our definition of success.

But what happened to a little good old-fashioned spontaneity? Besides the fact that it can be super fun, it also evokes a sense of freedom, cultivates authentic creativity, allows us to relax, and big belly laughs are pretty much guaranteed!

So here are 5 ways that I find freedom amidst the ink heavy Franklin planner:

  1. Take a hike. Keep a pair of sneakers + workout clothes in your car. Did one of those ‘inked’ meetings cancel on you? Throw on your sneakers and take a walk, run or skip around a new neighborhood or unexplored nature path. I dare you to high-five a stranger while at it. Palisades Park is my go to.
  2. Life’s a beach. Many of us are lucky enough to live near a neat park or the beach. Pop in your headphones or tune into a meditation in the midst of running errands. I like the Headspace app and yogaglo.com.
  3. Play hooky. From work, from your to-do list, from the full-of-dirty-dishes kitchen sink. Give yourself permission to say screw it and go on a stay-cation, just for one day. Do what you love, drink your full-fat latte followed by a mani/pedi and say “yes” to “10 minutes more” on the massage; heck tell them you want 30. Take a long nap. Drink an extra glass of wine. The point is to treat yourself. Most likely in 10 years you’ll remember the freeing feeling of this day rather than the load of laundry that was done a day “late.”
  4. Tell your routine to take a backseat. Where can you add in a little variety and get creative? Last week my colleague and I met on the beach instead of inside. I don’t know if it was the sound of the waves or the sand in our toes, but getting to the beach left us with an energy boost and ready to take on the rest of the day. It only took a bit more effort to change things up. Find yourself at the same restaurant or bar weekend after weekend? It’s even easy to get stuck in your routine of how you have fun. Check out goldstar.com to spice it up on the social side of things; at the last minute my girlfriends and I were able to catch a unique local play last weekend. If things are really heating up and you are far away from home, add to the impromptu party by booking a hotel “day of” at hoteltonight.com.
  5. Plan to be spontaneous. I know, I know! I am a sucker for the system. Some times letting your spontaneity flag fly requires blocking off an entire day with said sharpie. So grab a friend and agree that the only rule is to follow the sun and see where the day takes you. The last time my husband and I did this we grabbed coffee and cruised north on PCH finding ourselves in Ventura hiking the Mishe Mokwa trail. After, we hit up the (in)famous Neptune’s Net for a post hike feast! We shared unexpected and real conversation, a sweaty kiss or two and a probably little too much fried food.

Happy Spontaneity Hunting!

A Brand Passionate About You—About Health

by DYLN Inspired Founder, Dorian Ayres

Three years ago as I was finishing college I was confronted with a choice that we all come across with at least several times during our lifetime—what next?  After spending several years captivated by my personal health transformation through yoga, diet, alternative medicine, ranging from Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda to the basic importance empowering your body to be the healer, and the fundamentals of freedom and how it relates to our bodies and the health revolution happening right now across the globe, a clear vision had materialized to create DYLN Inspired®.  This name was chosen in remembrance of my brother Dylan.

The inspiration behind DYLN Inspired was to find synergy between health, fitness and products—activewear and accessories—that we now so commonly use in this journey toward a healthier and more active lifestyle.  We essentially wanted to bridge the gap between fitness and wellness through innovation, technology, and design.  We started in developing a revolutionary fabric technology, VitaPearl®, where we take a synergistic blend of nano-sized minerals and elements and permanently embed them directly into the structure of our yarns and fibers used to create our fabric. The synergistic nanotechnology used in DYLN Inspired’s VitaPearl fabric was developed to generate far-infrared, which is a very specific naturally occurring wavelength just outside the visible light spectrum. Far-infrared energy is widely recognized for its positive effects on the human body, such as:

  • Promoting circulation,
  • Increasing muscle and tissue oxygenation,
  • Cell optimization, and
  • Regulating body temperature.

In addition to the far-infrared, our fabric incorporates a unique blend of natural and synthetic fibers to combine nature with performance.  One of which contains nano-pearls embedded within a natural viscose fiber, to give our fabric and activewear unparalleled softness and comfort to be experienced throughout any activity or occasion.  Using the VitaPearl fabric we designed and developed a complete women’s activewear collection with over a dozen styles and numerous color offerings.

Using thermography and live blood microscopy, we were able to test the effects of our activewear and VitaPearl fabric and on the human body.  Thermography, also known as Medical Thermal Imagery, is used to detect functional health, imbalances, inflammation, and other ailments.  It is now also used as an alternative to screen for breast cancer, as there is absolutely no side effects in comparison to mammograms, which emit harmful radiation.  Test subjects were tested before wearing DYLN Inspired apparel, known as the ‘baseline,’ and immediately after 30 minutes of wearing a DYLN Inspired top and bottom.  No physical activity was performed during the testing period.

In all the test subjects, we noticed a significant decrease in varicosity within the areas of noticeable inflammation signifying an increase in circulation.  Furthermore, the effects of the activewear can be seen using live blood microscopy by detecting the changes on the cellular level, specifically the red blood cells.

DYLN Inspired was created to be a brand to empower our health and wellbeing, not just through apparel but also through the most vital essence—water. We have designed and developed a vortex-inspired portable water bottle made from food-grade stainless steel that incorporates our VitaBeads™, made from the same nanotechnology used within our fabric, within a diffuser placed inside the bottom the bottle.  The VitaBeads within the DYLN Living Water Bottle interacts with the water to increase the pH of the water to create alkaline water, microclusters the water molecules for more effective hydration, and reduces the OPR (Oxidation Reduction Potential) to a negative level to give the water anti-oxidant properties.  The purpose of the water bottle is to allow anyone to have eco-friendly way to create alkaline ‘living’ water wherever they are to effectually hydrate.  The Living Water Bottle is in the final stages of development and is now available for pre-order through our website.

The foundation has been set for DYLN Inspired.  And as we move forward, we continue to have product innovation, technology, and health be our motivational and fundamental drivers.  Learn more by visiting our website, www.dylninspired.com.

Bringing the love to Los Angeles

Four and half years ago I was talking with a girlfriend about wanting to start a business that would inspire and make a difference in people’s lives. I didn’t know what this would be, but I knew I would call it “Beaming”.

Beaming – a radiance, glow. It’s an energy. You feel it. You know when you are beaming. You know when you’re not. You know when you are around someone that’s beaming. It’s contagious. We all want to beam, right?

Six months later I saw Kris Carr speak at Marie Forleo’s Rich Happy & Hot Live in NYC and my life changed. Everyone in the room was inspired – she has that affect on people. This radiant, beautiful, charismatic, witty, amazing woman is truly captivating. She’s fantastic. And then we learned that she had cancer – and that she survived by changing her diet (and her lifestyle). You can’t help but to be inspired. Her message that FOOD IS POWERFUL is profound. Because what we eat and drink is the cornerstone of our health. I looked at my friend and said….”wow, that woman is BEAMING.”

At that moment, my life purpose changed…although I didn’t fully understand it at the time, the inspiration behind Beaming had begun.

I took this inspiration and spent a year studying and experiencing the concept of food as medicine. I played in the kitchen for hours and hours learning how to make juices, smoothies and raw and vegan foods so I could understand how food makes us feel and better yet, how to make healthy taste great.

A year after seeing Kris speak, I launched what would be the beginnings of Beaming. Collaborating with an amazing holistic chef, cleansing expert and author of Super Cleanse, Adina Niemerow, we designed a delicious raw food cleanse. The goal with this was to help people feel (and look) so good, that they would be inspired to make simple changes in their every day diet to promote long term health. And it worked. People’s lives changed and they wanted to live this lifestyle – they wanted “Beaming” all the time.

A year later, on December 17th  2012, I opened the first Beaming Superfood Café in Del Mar, CA. I should mention that I am not a restaurateur nor do I know anything about running a restaurant or cafe. In fact, I had never worked in one. I am passionate about health and wellness and even more passionate about changing lives. And thus, this mission drove me to bring Beaming to life. My ultimate goal was, and is, to help people realize we have more control over our health than we think we do by simply becoming more aware of how we nourish our bodies.

As a mother of 3 children (ages 9, 11 and 16), it also had to offer something that the entire family would enjoy; Healthy smoothies, snacks and foods that my kids would love and I would be thrilled for them to eat. I assumed other parents wanted the same.

I collaborated with some incredible chefs and created a menu of plant based foods that friends, family and customers became addicted to enjoying on a daily basis. The power of superfoods drove the menu – and the testimonials and positive energy kept us going. I am proud to say that we were able to create an amazing community of supporters in San Diego that maintain Beaming as an integral part of their day.

Less than two years later, the second Beaming Superfood Café opened this week in Los Angeles within the vibrant, family focused neighborhood of Brentwood. We are so excited to be here and integrate into the healthy lifestyle of this community.

It’s surreal, to be honest, as I watch this dream come to life. And every moment I am grateful. Truly. Grateful for having the strength and determination to do this. Even more so, I am grateful for my team, my family and the San Diego community that has supported me and Beaming to help make this possible.

One of the greatest gifts in all of this has been having my 16 year-old daughter, Lexi, be a part of this incredible journey with me. She was by my side when Del Mar launched 2 years ago, has been helping us launch Beaming Brentwood and has become an integral part of the team. She’s amazing and I am so incredibly proud of her.

In a few weeks, we will open Beaming Santa Monica – our 3rd location. Yowsa. Perhaps we are nuts or perhaps we just can’t help ourselves because we love what we do. Food is powerful. Positive energy is powerful. Believing in what we do and why we do it is powerful. It is, in essence, the definition of the word…Beaming.

It is with tremendous gratitude that I want to honor you all for helping make this happen and for continuing to inspire the world to live Beaming.

Cheers to you, to good health and to all of life’s possibilities.

With love,

Beaming Founder and CEO

Bringing your passion to life – a discussion on entrepreneurship

People often ask me why I started Beaming and my simple answer is to inspire people to live happier, healthier lives.  More specifically, I wanted to help people realize the power we have over our own health, which starts with what we eat and drink (and think – as cancer survivor and chief health & inspiration guru, Kris Carr would say). For years I worried about each doctor visit wondering if I might someday be told that dreadful news – I hated feeling disempowered as if somehow my health was in the hands of my DNA and the toxins around us. I wanted to feel empowered and I was pretty sure that I wasn’t alone. As I learned what I learned about the power of food as medicine, I wanted to share this knowledge in a way that would inspire but not preach. That would simplify our lives and not complicate, knowing our lives are already too complicated and overwhelming. I wanted to offer an experience that would give people access to delicious plant based foods and juices that the whole family could enjoy that would be deliciously and healthfully addictive. That people would realize that we have a lot more control over our health then we think we do. I wanted to simplify the process of being healthy knowing how busy we all are and share simple tips that could have transformative effects on the way we look and feel.  And thus Beaming was born.

I created Beaming out of passion –a mission to inspire, educate and change lives.  The irony with creating Beaming’s cafes is that I had never worked in a restaurant before and definitely wasn’t a restauranteur – in fact, I had no idea how to run a food service operation and the truth is, I still don’t.  I hired people who know how to do this better than I ever could and stayed focused doing what I do best.

The journey of creating Beaming has been something I couldn’t have prepared for – full of highs and lows and fears and elations, moments that are surreal and times of tears — even moments I wanted to quit.  For the first couple of years, I actually made my self sick from stress, literally, while helping everyone else be healthy.  Something was really wrong with this irony and eventually I learned that I couldn’t continue to build a business of making others healthy at my expense.  The truth in this is that this is very common for entrepreneurs – that we will pour your heart and soul into building our dream & pursuing our missions, often neglecting ourselves in the process because we are so passionate about what we are doing.    As I often say, “you don’t become an entrepreneur because you want more time to yourself, you do so because you are passionate about what you do.”

Recently the online blog Lady Clever interviewed me for a story about Beaming and what I have learned along the way.  I absolutely love supporting other entrepreneurs and those that have something special they want to share with the world.

My interview with Lady Clever can be read here.

As always, thank you for your continued support of Beaming and more importantly, for YOUR commitment to YOUR health!

xo, Lisa

5 Simple Tips to Feel Great Every Day.

by Julie Morris
Culinary Director at Beaming, and best-selling author of Superfood Smoothies.

It’s practically a requirement to have fun and let loose a little during the core summer months, right? But while our sunshiney relaxed vibe may be good for the soul, not every aspect is so great on the body (I’m looking at you, bottomless margaritas). That’s why before we get swept away in the holiday hustle, September serves as the perfect time to get back in touch with a healthy routine, renew our energy, and re-light our glow. September is a time of transition. September is a time to cleanse.

Cleansing can come in many forms: from juices to jogging, pretty much any healthy action is going to help the body renew and repair, and keep us in our prime. It all adds up! So, with fall fast approaching, here are five healthy habits to keep in mind:

  1. Have a nutrient-dense beverage every day.  Even if you’re not going on a full-blown cleanse, folding in a smoothie or a juice (ideally, both!) into your everyday lifestyle really is a must. Why? Because smoothies and juices are hyper-packed with detoxifying and deeply nourishing nutrition, in one of the most easily digestible forms: liquid. Green smoothies and juices will be the most cleansing because of their chlorophyll content, but truthfully any variety that includes superfoods and natural ingredients will be beneficial.
  2. Boost your water. The elevated heat during the summer is usually reminder enough to drink all the water we need throughout the day (water, of course, being a paramount component of keeping our bodies flushed and clean from the inside-out). But come fall and its cooling weather, many times maintaining proper hydration can become forgotten and more difficult to manage. To help increase your daily water consumption, try putting in slices of alkalizing lemon/lime, or different types of fresh herbs like mint or rosemary inside of your water bottle. Within just a half an hour, you’ll have a delicately flavored water that tastes as good as it feels, and the flavor enhancement will help serve as a motivation to drink more … all without adding any additional calories. Bonus: it looks so beautiful, too!
  3. Choose superfood snacks. Don’t deny yourself from snacks, just choose them wisely. Incorporating snacks that are composed of superfoods makes sure that you make the most of every crunch and munch via vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Kale crisps, seed-based crackers, and bars or bites made with invigorating foods like goji berries or coconut are a great way to simply swap out the bad with the good … and by good we’re also talking deliciously good.   And if you happen to be by Beaming, they have ahhhhhmazzzzing Superfood Snacks – I especially love their “Love Brittle” and the infamous “Beaming Superfood Protein(crack) Bite”.
  4. Add chia seeds. Chia seeds are like a safety net for cleansing: because of the high fiber, mucilage (healthy and filling plant compound), and good fats, chia seeds make any food just a little more satisfying, while adding bona fide nutrition. And, thanks to having almost no taste at all, they’re ideal to add to … well… anything! Keep them on hand to make any meal a superfood one, with just a little sprinkle.
  5. Pick seasonally. Sure, everyone knows that eating more fruits and veggies is a core part of a clean diet, but admit it: sometimes actually following through can be a challenge. To ensure you never get bored, rotate in peak season produce for an excitingly diverse addition of flavor, color, and even nutrition. Challenge yourself to buy one different hyper-seasonal fruit and vegetable each week. A trip to the farmer’s market can offer loads of inspiration!

Remember, it’s about progress, not perfection. So challenge yourself to an inclusive renewal this month, and enjoy the expediential rewards.

Meet Anna Spalding: Yoga Teacher

1. Tell us about yourself. What do you do? Where do you lead classes?

My study of mind, body, and spirit began as a dancer, while growing up in Nebraska. I fell in love with the art of movement as a young child and after high school, moved to Santa Barbara to continue my training in Ballet, Contemporary, and Hip-Hop.  One of my ballet teachers incorporated pilates and yoga in our warm up and I found it beyond life changing.

As a dedicated teacher and practitioner recognized both by Yoga Alliance (E-RYT 200) and Anusara (Anusara-Inspired), I strive to inspire love and joyful transformation in each and every one of my students.  I teach a combination of Vinyasa and Sculpt Yoga classes influenced by Anusara, dance, Pilates, inversions, and my belief in the power of laughter and play.

2. San Diego has some pretty amazing places to practice. Where’s your favorite place to practice yoga?

My favorite place to practice is wherever I’m inspired.  The beach, groovin to my tunes at home, and of course with my students.  They inspire me every single day of my life.

3. How do you keep your yoga practice priority?

Yoga is a way of life!  It creates a canvas for us to create and believe in ourselves. Finding the time to reconnect within gives us the opportunity to discover our true path, our dharma. When we follow this path we are free to live the life we love with an open heart!

4. Do you have any must have accessories for yoga?

Weirdly enough I usually don’t use a mat! Ha ha! I do love me some musical inspiration though. I feel music feeds our soul right along with our practice!

5. Favorite Beaming cold pressed juice or smoothie?

My favorite Beaming smoothie is Lisa’s daily lean and green. Why you ask?!  It’s amazing first of all and second it’s low glycemic with a very low sweet factor.  If you really want to get gangster add in some extra spinach and E3-live action!

6. What does it mean to live Beaming to you?

To me it means living a healthy, vibrant, and balanced life. Living the life you love. xoxo
